Yentl
(US 1983)
Directed by Barbra Streisand
Featuring Barbra Streisand
|
story: |
A story of a jewish girl named Yentl.
In early 20th, academic freedom was only of males in Poland.
After losing her loving father, Yentl who loves reading decided
to go to the jewish school for priests where only boys can enter
so that Yentl had to undercover herself as a boy.
|
point: |
Yentl fell in love with a study friend
at the school. However since she undercover herself as a boy,
there comes lots of misunderstandings and prejudices. And Yentl
was nearly engaged to his girlfriend, which is a lesbian element
in this movie. The process a girl becomes self-reliant with
passion for learning is awesome. This movie was produced, directed,
plotted by Barbra Streisand, featuring her, and the theme song
was sung by her too. Received Best Music, Original Song Score
and Its Adaptation or Best Adaptation Score.

Coup
de Foudre/Entre Nous (France 1983)
Directed by Diane Kurys
Featuring Miou-Miou, Isabelle Huppert
|
story: |
In 1942 in occupied France, a Jewish
refugee, Lena marries a soldier to escape deportation to Germany.
She meets Madeleine who lost her first husband by Nazis. They
meet at their children's school in Lyon and the intensity of
their relationship strains both their marriages to the breaking
point.
|
point: |
How the two conquer problems and deepen
their friendship to love. Woman's toughness in the core can
be seen in both women who seek for each other sometimes cunningly
and sometimes stupidly while husbands fell apart from wives
change. It's an excellent movie of women who support each other
and start to live their own lives.
