story: |
After the World War I, 14-year old Manuela was sent to an
all-girls boarding school in Potsdam. There she was attached
to one of her teacher, Elizabeth Von Bernburg. At a party
following a school play, drunken Manuela announced her love
to Elizabeth in front of guests and students. The original
piece was by Christa Winslow and he himself wrote the script
for the film.
|
point: |
Casts, the director and the film
writer are all women, so this can be said a film from the point
of woman's view. It is highly admired as the first film picturing
romance between women, taken 70 years ago in German under Hitler
administration. In the retaken version, Romy Schneider is acting
Manuela. Strongly recommended as the oldest lesbian film now
available in video.
