Attention to the virus attacking your computer on Christmas day |
Unclear |
(IDG) It has been prepared for a year to
show up on a center stage just one time in a year around Christmas.
It is not about Santa Clause. It's about the computer virus, which
sneaks into the files on your computer and set in an action on December
25.
Anti-virus software manufacturers such as Symantec recommend an
update of anti-virus data for damage prevention.
The virus is called "Kriz," infects EXE (executable)
files of Windows 95/98/NT and write over and change the code of
a file (Kernel32.dll) in System Folder. It stays inside the memory
without showing the user the symptoms of virus infection. Once in
a year on Dec. 25, it's set in an action and causes devastating
damage: delete important information such as date, time, start-up
configuration, and write over and change every drive file, destroy
BIOS that serve as a liaison with OS and hardware.
Patrick Martin of Symantec, an anti-virus software manufacturer
says, "Kriz is resting in your computer till Dec. 25 for 364
days but won't show any sign of infection," and alert users.
Kriz was first found last summer and a few of damages were reported
on Dec. 25 last year. If auti-virus data was updated since then,
there should be no problem this year. Those who don't update data
time to time need to be careful.
