Gender modification on the census registration will be permitted |
Jun. 26, 2003 |
On June 26, the Upper House Judicial Affairs Committee agreed
on submitting a special bill that enables people with sexual
identity disorder to modify their gender on the census registration.
The bill is expected to be approved at the floor and sent to
the Lower House on July 2, and will be passed in the current
Diet session.
The bill allows men and women with sexual identity disorder
to modify his/her gender on the census registration. They
must have the approval by domestic courts.
The person who wants to appeal to the court must meet some
requirements such as;
(1) Over 20 years old single with no child, (2) Incapable
in reproduction by removing the genital gland. |
