Otsuji Kanako (age 30), a member of Osaka Assembly, publicly declared herself a lesbian on August 12, and announced the publishment of her autobiography "Come out-a journey to fine who I am" (from Kodanshaon August 13).
It was extremely rare that incumbent officially announces one's homosexuality. She could not carry out her "come out" when she became a candidate of Oasaka Assembly election 2003. She said she was not sure at that time that she could have public understand homosexuality. 2 years have past sinde her first election, she decided to come out. "I don't want young people who suffer from being gay feel the same." Otuji says.
In her book, she tells about a woman she met and fell in love with when she was an university student, time when she distressed herself for having nobody to talk to, chances of meeting other gay people that let her accept what she is. |
